In accordance with government guidelines, we hope to re-open The Botanist and Cooks Aweigh on 1st June.

Customers will be asked to enter the shop from Fore Street and leave the garden area to Victoria Road, thus avoiding the need for close contact.

Hand sanitiser will be available at the entrance to the shop and we will keep a close check on number of customers at all times.
We look forward to seeing all our customers again, both old and new.

In the heart of Topsham, Devon

Cooks Aweigh at 22 Fore St. Topsham sells a range of cookware, textiles, lighting and small pieces of furniture in addition to indoor and outdoor plants in our adjoining sister shop The Botanist.

Stockists are ever changing,  but include staples such as  Garden Trading, Grand Illusions, Chalk, Sam Wilson, Roka, Kitchencraft, Biggie Best , Kuhn Rikon, Squelch, Dollyhotdogs, Tweedmill Textiles and Lightstyle London. We  design our own  velvet cushions and  quilts and import traditional Indian block printed tablecloths and accessories from an ethical “fair trade” supplier.

So much more than a cook shop

Established for 19 years, and serving local and returning visitors from all over the country, we also work with gardeners and interior designers.  Our courtyard garden is an inspiration from spring to autumn with a variety of plants and corresponding containers in zinc and terracotta.  Outdoor furniture, shelving, hurricane lanterns and solar lighting enhance the cloistered area.  The owner, Helen Mottershead, is available to discuss your garden design projects and works with a small team of professionals to create magical small exterior spaces.

The Botanist fulfils the current  popular trend in houseplants and these we mix with seasonal faux flowers and stems, bringing life and colour into the home without the need for specialist light conditions.  Christmas garlands and ivy swags provide a “wow” factor, particularly when threaded with our led lighting.  Add a mix of candles, soaps, and greetings cards, all packed into our quaint old building and you will find something for homemakers of all ages, tastes and budgets.
